I have an 89 lx with automatic One day, the thing was fine, no slips or hard shifting or anything odd, the next time I started it and put it in gear it didn't move. The OD light came on and flashed three times with a short pause then flashed three times again over and over. Any help?

Welcome to our forum.

Wish I could help. When I get back home from work late tonight I'll see if my shop manual has any help in it, though my manual is for a '90. Someone else here may be able to chime in before that. We have a few people here who are 1st gen savvy.

I'm still looking for the answer. I think your control module is going bad. Will have to research further. Hard to do between two jobs.

Thanks for the test procedure. As soon as it is warm enough outside I'll use it. bob

You're welcome. Hopefully this weekend you'll be able to get it done, in spite of the rain.
I'm sorry I couldn't be more specific, but from what I've read the three flashes you're getting only mean that you need to do more investigating. Now if it were the check engine light diagnostic technique would be even simpler!

Well, it seems to be bad by the test you sent. I am going to open the box and re-flow the solder joints and try it again. I used to work for SIA electronics and in the case of control modules about 95% of the failures were due to bad solder joints.

Okay, box now responds to KOEO and KOER testing with a 6 code vehicle speed sensor. Will this keep the transmission forom engaging all together? Is there an easy way to get to it? cleared out codes and tried it but it just resets the 6 and does nothing.

Thats a good question. Being an ATX I'm not sure. I would say try to drive it a very short distance.
IIRC the speed sensor is a gizmo on the transmission end of the speedo cable and a quick look in my shop manual confirms this. With any luck it'll just be a worn out wire or bad connection. Follow the cable from the dash to the trans and you'll see it. Then you'll be able to trace the wire. Its been a very long time ago but I vaguely remember it being not that hard. I haven't had my first gen since 1999.

Sorry no one else has been around lately. Club seems dead. Heck, it has been 13 years since the last 2nd gen was built.
