I just won a Toshiba L355D-S7825; 17" screen, AMD Turion 64 X2 dual core processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD. With tax (Tax on an internet purchase?! Don't get me started.) I beat $300. Just have to replace the touchpad and put up with some scuffs. I like to use a travel mouse anyway so the touchpad won't be much of an issue.

I'm excited, though I see that cnet gave it only a 5.5 out of 10 rating.

Well put it in and its still dead.

I got only the new MB with memory, CPU and keybord connected(that's it, nothing more connected!) on the counter with the power cord plugged in and it still won't boot. This sould be the bare mininum to boot. The MB is BRAND NEW and the memory is good(put memory in my good notebook and it runs fine). I metered the power button all the way through the ribbon it has continuity. Power was metered at the solder pads on the board and was 19.2V. The only thing original is one of the two used processors(Tried booting with both). So this being said, that should be the only thing keeping it from booting right??? This is crazy. I'm gonna order a processor. If this doesn't do it, I have absolutely no idea at all about this thing.

Looking at this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/INTEL-CORE-2DUO-PROCESSOR-T2300-1-66GHz-CPU-SL8VR_W0QQitemZ140369090250QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCPUs?hash=item20aea656ca

$25 isn't bad. If I buy that I'm still under $100 at 92 bucks or so. Then maybe I can resell a board and get some money back on it. We'll see. But it still sucks if a processor would do it and I have bought two MBs.

Is that the speed that came in it?
I have some single core processors available for testing but I don't know if they would fit your socket. One is a 1.7/2m/400 SL8BA (print is so small!). The other is a 1.3 some something. Pretty sure they work. OTOH for the price you've found I would go for it.

Yeah, that's what came in it. I know I don't have a whole lot invested in it but it's more than I was expecting to have in it. With having to maybe buy a processor now, i'd like to sell it rather than give it away like I originally intended. Hehe. Maybe tomorrow I'll buy that processor. We'll see.

Its probably too much trouble but if the new proc works then I might test both motherboards.

Wouldn't be hard if i test them sitting on the counter like it is now. Might do that. If so, I'll use and old board and try to get rid of the brand new one.

I just replaced the inverter in a Toshiba. It came back on briefly telling me battery power was at 6% and I had to plug it in. Now I can't get it to come on. Oh, the a/c, power on, and battery charging LEDs are lit. So is the c/d-dvd LED. Hmm.

Turns out to be a problem with the lappy returning from sleep. Unplugging and removing the battery for a period of time allowed me to boot to Windows. Then I changed the power schemes. No more sleep.

Got a Gateway in today. Tried to use the 100 gig drive from a pile of crap lappy. Drive dead. Also had to remove and clean out heat sink to keep it from overheating and shutting down. It had lint balls! Am programming it with XP now on a 20 gig drive I borrowed from another dead laptop.

Anyone got a spare IDE laptop hard drive of decent size?

The Gateway is doing well now. About to be sold. Got two more lappies coming in.

What's your status James?
