If you're going to go through the trouble of swapping the downpipes, don't bother with the ones off of the parts car...

Just go with these!

Eh, just a thought, but those, plus the Borla, and you should be in pretty decent shape.

I'm actually thinking about a set. I've got some from a parts car, but they'll need a little bit of work before they can be put to use. It may be more worthwhile to just get a new set, especially if they are that cheap.

But I already have the ones from the parts car. They're free. I already spent too much money on the hack job. I would also bet that keeping my upstream pipes would keep the noise down better than headers. Call me old but I've not put on the Borla yet because I've been enjoying the relative quiet. That is not to say the Borla doesn't sound sweet. It certainly does.

I know what you mean... On both counts. As I said, just a thought.

I guess that it's a little different for me--I don't have to drive my PGT anywhere if I don't want. Of course, the other thing for me is this: my Probe is not my quietest vehicle, anyway. With all of the rattles and squeaks, I may actually welcome an exhaust that drowns it out. I will say this--when I put headers on the Celica, it didn't make a big difference in sound. Heck, since I fixed the exhaust leak, it actually make it quieter. Not so sure that would be the case with a non-stock exhaust, though.

I will say this--the Borla is my favorite of the aftermarket exhausts. It doesn't look stupid, and it's not much louder than stock. It's just a little pricey these days.

Of course, you know, if you're not going to install it, you could just clean it up and sell it... Just a thought...

On a somewhat unrelated note, at least they didn't charge you very much. In all fairness, $250, parts and labor, for a catalytic converter, is really cheap. Did you supply your own part?

Nope, they pulled it from a box on the shelf.

Maybe I'm just getting older, re: sound. The Borla had an "exotic" sound in the higher rev range.

You should have heard the very loud sounds my Capri v-6 made with headers & dual exhaust. Whew! but nice.

Got up under car for oil change today. Also replaced front O2 sensor. Will get rear sensor this weekend. Cut grass beforehand. Now I'm tired. Not in the mood to get back under.

Noticed that the front of the converter was welded to existing flange. Do not have to swap down pipes after all. I would, however, need someone to weld a new flange on the rear to bolt up my Borla.

Trunk was wet where bags of oil had been. Have noted water leaking from sunroof corners again. <sigh>

OK, so that's not as bad as we first thought. Still silly of them to do it that way, though.

Of course, then there's the matter of getting a new flange...

What was the price of a test pipe last time you looked?

I can honestly say that I have never looked at the price of a test pipe. Never, ever...

It isn't exactly something I see myself paying for...

Odd, my car's last tankful lasted roughly 30 miles more than any all summer.

So, what is that in MPG?

21 - 22, city. Last tank mixed a/c use was probably 19 - 20 mpg. Roughly 2 mpg increase. No change in habits or habitat.

I always thought that you got slightly better mileage than me.

Maybe I'm thinking of someone else, or maybe it was you in a different car...

Those were highway miles. City miles, no one can beat you.

Side note; the green car gets better highway miles than the red car did.

Funny you should mention that. My mileage was pretty aweful last tank. I only got 25+ MPG. Yeesh!

One of these days, I'm going to swap out for the ratios on the 626, then I really will be unbeatable.

Ah, so you were putting your foot in it a little. Just off your game a bit. No worries.

Probably so. At least, we can hope. I'm also probably letting it warm up a couple of minutes on a few of these cold mornings, so that sure isn't helping.
