I'm running ZoneAlarm anti-virus, which I actually like. It's worked well for me so far. Then, a few weeks ago, there was an update. Then...
I got a ZoneAlarm Internet Explorer tool bar. I hate tool bars. Every blasted program wants to install a toolbar. If I let them do it, I'd have no browser window left--just toolbars!
I would just get rid of it, and that would be the end of it, but I can't. Believe me, I've tried. I go into View->Toolbars->ZoneAlarm Toolbar, deselect it, and it goes away... Then the stupid thing comes back.
So, how can I get rid of it, short of getting rid of ZoneAlarm or getting rid of Explorer. Is anyone else using ZoneAlarm? Is there a component of it that I can disable to get rid of the stupid toolbar?
Thanks! _________________ --Felipe I Torrejon

| Get Hijack This and run a scan. It will give you a list of registry entries with things like buttons, tool bars and everything loaded on start up. Deselect what you don't like and Fix Selected. |

The man has a plan. HiJack This is practically the best tool out there for such things as these and viruses and trojans.
I've been very careful with my installations. I make sure to uncheck every dman toolbar installation box every time. I use Zone Alarm. I find it pretty darned effective. I think you may also be able to remove it via the Add/Remove Programs program in the Control Panel.

Ah, thanks and thanks! I've actually checked, and there was an entry for the toolbar in "Add/Remove Programs" so now my ZoneAlarm Force Field is gone, but so is the toolbar. I can live with that.
However, I'm going to go ahead and try the HiJack This. Sounds like something I can use.
I just can't figure what the hell they were thinking. Why on earth do you need a toolbar for something like that? Seriously, I just don't understand some of the programs that come with toolbars. Unless it has some kind of feature that you use every day, you don't need that kind access to it! _________________ --Felipe I Torrejon

In Ye Olde Dayes of DOS, everything had a TSR (terminate/stay resident). But they sucked up all the memory. All 640k. And Bill promised us that's all we'd ever need!!
Then came Windows. And suddenly, everything had a tray icon. But then the system tray was so huge the taskbar was worthless and they had to create a collapsing system tray. We also ran out of memory again.
So now everyone has tool bars. Still waiting to run out of memory though.
They will make your browser load slower though. |

It's funny you should mention that. Now that I think about it, I think that it is actually faster since I removed the ZA tool bar.
